Brief Course Outline
This workshop will cover four essential elements to writing both novels and short stories. Kirsty will guide you through some key techniques to develop your writing skills. She will give you tips your creative writing journey that will help polish your writing to a publishable standard.

·         Creating a vivid setting
·         Developing your character
·         Editing and pathways to publication

Structure of the workshop
The workshop will combine theoretical and practical elements. Participants will undertake writing exercises and be encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussion, and both seek and offer constructive critical feedback from their peers.

About the Trainer
Kirsty Murray is the author of eleven novels for children and young adults. Her books have won and been shortlisted for many awards and published internationally. She has also written nine other books for young people plus countless short stories and articles. Every year, Kirsty teaches creative writing and shares the joy of reading with thousands of people of all ages in libraries, schools and at literary festivals around the world. She has been an Asialink Literature Resident in India and a Creative Fellow of the State Library of Victoria. Kirsty is currently course director of Writing for Children and Young Adults at the Faber Academy in Melbourne.
