ANZAC Day

ANZAC day takes place in Australia on April 25th.
It is a day to remember those who have fought for our country.
In 2004 I was lucky enough to visit Gallipoli, Turkey. It is the scene of a battle that Australian soldiers are famous for fighting at. I wanted to share some photos from my trip.
It is a hauntingly beautiful place.
Poppies are a symbol to remember the fallen who never returned home.

Anzac Cove is the site where the soldiers landed at dawn.

One of the original trenches.

One of many grave sites.

The grave of Simpson (and his donkey). All Australian children know this story.

The rugged road in.

The site of the renowned dawn service.

You can study history and read stories to try and understand the past. But visiting and seeing with your own eyes is such an amazing experience. Visiting Gallipoli was such an emotional, beautiful, inspiring trip. One that I will cherish always.

"Lest we forget."
