People change everything about the way they look as often as they do their hairstyle but Rose is different. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR WRITING
JOURNEY.
I started as a voracious reader and after
reading (I hate to say it) Twilight,
I thought, “I can do this.” So I sat
down and wrote the first draft of my first novel in just 6 weeks. After wasting lots of time and effort going
down the traditional path of agent and publisher, I decided to self-publish and
have never once looked back.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A
WRITER?
The networking. It is strange, but true. Since I have self-published, I have met lots
of other readers, authors and bloggers and continue to be amazed at how
supportive they are. It is mind boggling
when I think that all around the world, there are people pulling for me and
wishing me success.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST ASPECT OF
WRITING?
Time management and marketing. Marketing is a beast unto itself and if I’m
not careful, it can suck up all of my time, including time I need to use
writing.
HOW MUCH RESEARCH GOES INTO YOUR
STORYLINE?
Some, but not lots. I write what I know and as I go, I check my
facts.
HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR STORYLINE?
Yes! I
am an obsessive compulsive organizational freak when it come to planning. I create character charts, scene charts and
fill them out before I start writing.
Then after writing my first draft, I go back and check these charts to
make sure all of the pieces fit. Feel
free to check them out on my website under the “Author Resources” tab.
WRITERS ARE SOMETIMES INFLUENCED BY
THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN THEIR OWN LIVES. ARE YOU?
My
travels are a big influence. All of my
setting come from places that I have visited.
Places really stick with me and I love to include them in my writing,
even when I do twist them just a bit to fit my story.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR
PUBLICATIONS/AWARDS IF ANY?
My first book, The Inadvertent Thief, has received excellent reviews. It is a romantic suspense that has some great
plot twists and lots of adventure. It
has been exciting to see how others have enjoyed reading it and are responding
well to it.
WHAT IS THE MOST SURPRISING THING
ABOUT WRITING/PUBLISHING THAT YOU HAVE LEARNT?
How generous the Indie Author community
is. I have received lots of help and
support from fellow authors and bloggers.
Their support continues to amaze me and inspire me to pay it forward.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR NEW
WRITERS?
Pace yourself and don’t give up. If all goes well, we will be doing this for
decades to come. So don’t get
discouraged if things aren’t happening as fast as you would like them to.
OTHER THAN WRITING, WHAT ELSE DO YOU
LOVE?
Travel, Art History and classic film.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR AND
WHY?
Jane Austen.
She was a true romantic and accomplished so much as a woman trying to be
published in a man’s world and she did this without a huge network of support.
IF YOU HAD A PREMONITION YOU WOULD
BE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT 5 BOOKS WOULD YOU THROW IN YOUR BAG?
Pride and Prejudice, Gone With the Wind, The
Complete Sherlock Holmes, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Murder on the Orient
Express
WHAT FIVE WORDS BEST SUM YOU UP
Organized, driven, independent, creative and
kind.
